Yoga is usually understood as a procedure for union. This union is multifaceted. In one measurement, it’s an union of the various systems that exist within the human being including the psychological, physical, mental, and religious systems. In total there are believed to be five distinct systems within human life. These are commonly called the koshas which are energetic, the physical, mental, subtle, and ecstasy sheaths. In our present understanding of yoga, we’re working to unify layers of the human being or these five bodies. Another procedure for union happens between of the universal consciousness and the individual consciousness.
